The short answer

A technical SEO audit inspects everything that controls how Google crawls, indexes, and evaluates your site: robots rules, sitemaps, index coverage, canonicals, redirects, internal links, schema markup, and Core Web Vitals. It finds the technical problems blocking your rankings and ranks them by impact, so you fix what matters first.

The 30 checks

What does the audit check?

Six layers, thirty checks, built from patterns found across 100+ WordPress audits. Every check runs against your site's actual data, never assumptions.

Crawlability

  • Robots.txt rules and accidental blocks
  • Crawl budget waste: tags, archives, feeds, parameters
  • Redirect chains and loops from old redesigns
  • Orphan pages no internal link reaches
  • XML sitemap accuracy and coverage

Indexation

  • GSC coverage: crawled and discovered but not indexed
  • Canonical conflicts and duplicate content
  • Noindex mistakes and index bloat
  • Soft 404s and thin pages diluting the site
  • Pagination and faceted URL handling

Architecture & internal links

  • Click depth to your money pages
  • Internal link distribution and anchor text
  • Breadcrumbs and URL structure
  • Category and tag taxonomy health

Schema markup

  • JSON-LD validity and rich-result eligibility
  • Plugin-generated schema errors
  • Missing types: FAQ, Breadcrumb, Organization, Product
  • Whether your schema forms one connected graph

Core Web Vitals

  • LCP, CLS, and INP on real-user data
  • Mobile usability and viewport issues
  • Render-blocking assets and image weight

Security & hygiene

  • HTTPS consistency and mixed content
  • Staging leftovers and exposed test pages
  • Hacked-content and spam-injection checks
The deliverable

What do you actually get?

You'll get a report that's written for a business owner, not for another SEO. Every finding comes in three parts: what's broken, what it's costing you, and exactly how to fix it. Findings are ranked by impact, so the top of the report is always the fix that moves rankings most, and the bottom's the housekeeping that can wait.

With the full audit you'll also get a 30-minute call to walk through it. Ask anything, challenge anything, and leave knowing precisely what to do next, whether you're doing it yourself, handing it to your developer, or having me implement it in a Fix Sprint.

One honest note: an audit finds problems, it doesn't fix them. If your site turns out to be technically clean and your problem's content or competition, the report will say that plainly. You'll never be sold fixes your site doesn't need.

Audit vs retainer

Most sites need the one-time cleanup first. Retainers built on an unfixed foundation just bill you monthly for the same problems.

Who it's for

Who needs a technical SEO audit most?

Traffic dropped suddenly

A redesign, migration, or plugin update usually broke something technical. The audit finds what.

Search Console full of errors

Not-indexed warnings, redirect errors, and schema issues diagnosed at the root cause, not the symptom.

Great content, no rankings

If the writing is good but invisible, the foundation is usually the problem. That's exactly what this checks.

Before spending on SEO

About to invest in content or links? Audit first, so that budget lands on a site Google can actually rank.

Questions

Technical SEO audits, answered

What is a technical SEO audit?

A technical SEO audit is a systematic inspection of everything that affects how search engines crawl, index, and evaluate your website: robots.txt, sitemaps, index coverage, canonicals, redirects, site architecture, schema markup, and Core Web Vitals. The output isn't a score, it's a prioritized list of the specific problems costing you rankings and the order to fix them in.

How long does a technical SEO audit take?

The $49 Health Check delivers in 48 hours. The full 30-point audit takes 3 days for most WordPress sites. Very large sites, like WooCommerce stores with tens of thousands of URLs, can take longer, and I'll tell you that before we start, not after.

What do I need to give you?

Your site URL is enough for the Health Check. For the full audit, read-only access to Google Search Console makes the findings far more precise, because I can see exactly what Google crawled, indexed, and excluded rather than inferring it. WordPress admin access is only needed when we move to fixes.

Do you fix the problems too, or just report them?

Both options exist. The audit packages deliver findings plus exact fix instructions your developer can follow. If you want it done for you, the $399 Technical Fix Sprint includes the audit and the implementation of every critical fix, which is what most clients choose.

Will the audit cover my WooCommerce store?

Yes, and stores benefit most. WooCommerce creates crawl traps that content sites never see: filtered category URLs, sort parameters, out-of-stock products, and duplicate product variants. The audit maps all of it and tells you what to index, what to canonicalize, and what to block.

Is a free SEO audit tool enough?

Free tools are fine for symptoms and useless for causes. They'll tell you a meta description is missing; they can't tell you why Google crawled 4,000 pages but indexed 400, or which of your plugins is generating broken schema. Tools scan patterns. An auditor reads your specific site's data and tells you what actually matters.
