Airdrie SEO, where one town holds two different markets
Airdrie SEO from one person, remotely: I'm Muhammad Younus, a WordPress technical SEO consultant, and I fix the technical and on-page problems that keep Airdrie business sites out of Google's results. Audits from $149, fixes from $999, booked on Upwork. I measured all 29 Airdrie local packs first, and the town doesn't behave like one market: a roofer faces a most-reviewed listing on 54 reviews, a security and alarms business one on a thousand.

One town, two completely different fights
Airdrie is small enough that people talk about it as one market. The pack data says it isn't. A roofer here is looking at a pack whose most-reviewed listing has 54. A security and alarms business is looking at one where it's a thousand, against a pack median of fifteen. Same town, same month, same search behaviour. The work those two need has almost nothing in common, and any page that tells them both the same thing is guessing.
If you're in a concentrated pack
Security and alarms, HVAC, pest control, insurance. One name far ahead of everyone else.
- The most-reviewed listing holds a review count no local business is going to match, so the reputation gap is not the lever here
- Chasing their review count is a plan with no end date
- The Map Pack may not be the first fight, and the organic results are usually where the room is
- Your service pages have to answer the specific job, not the category
If you're in a shallow pack
Roofers, garage doors, concrete, water and fire restoration. No listing on a hundred reviews.
- A pack where no listing has 100 reviews means a smaller reputation gap than in the concentrated packs, though reviews alone do not decide pack position
- Technical accessibility counts for more when the competitive gaps are this shallow, though it is still one part of local visibility
- Aligning the profile with the site strengthens the relevance signals you control, with no timetable attached
- The gap is often maintenance nobody did rather than budget
So the first question on the call isn't what your website looks like. It's which of those two rows your trade is in, because I'd give you opposite advice.
What is an unreadable site costing you here?
Do this with your own numbers. These are examples of the arithmetic, not forecasts, and the trades are ones the pack study actually covers in Airdrie.
Use your own Search Console, call volume and average job value here. The keyword figures further down describe demand for SEO help in Airdrie, not demand for roofing, restoration or garage door work, so don't let them set your expectations for the job itself. If one extra job a month doesn't cover the package, don't book it.

Most owners don't know, and that's fine
Does this sound familiar?
- "Someone built it years ago and I've lost touch with him"
- "I don't know if it's WordPress, and I can't log in"
- "My web person and my SEO person blame each other"
- "I just know it's slow, and the phone isn't ringing"
Send the URL and I'll tell you
- What it's built on, inside a minute, at no charge
- Whether the search problems are fixable on the site you've got
- If it isn't WordPress and shouldn't move, I'll say that too
- What's a search problem for me, and what's a job for your web person
One person for the search side, start to finish.
Send the URL on Upwork. You'll know where you stand before you spend anything.
Which of the four does your site actually need?
Agencies sell SEO as one thing. It's four, and knowing which one you're short of matters more here than in a big city, because the pages you're up against don't say which one they do. Of the eight I read in full, one mentions WordPress and none names a single tool it uses.
There's a fifth now: being understood and referenced by AI answers, including Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google's own guidance is that this needs no special markup or AI text file, just a crawlable, clear page, which is why GEO and AEO work sits inside the same projects rather than being sold separately.
No AI-search gimmicks either. I don't sell llms.txt as a Google ranking factor, I don't invent GEO schema Google doesn't ask for, and I won't promise that an AI answer will cite you, because nobody controls that.
What does a technical SEO consultant actually do?
Your project will use some of these, not all of them. The audit decides which, and the scope names them before you pay anything.
showing all 20
Not sure which of these your site needs? That is what the audit is for: you get the list, ranked by what each one is costing you, before anything else is agreed.
How does working with an SEO consultant actually run?
Book the call
Send your URL and read-only Search Console access. It takes two minutes, and the call is free.
Get the findings
What's broken, what it's costing in clicks, ranked. If a finding isn't in your own data, it doesn't go in the list.
Approve a fixed scope
A written scope, a date and a price on Upwork. You approve it before anything starts.
Fixes, then measurement
I do the work, one change per page per window, then you and I read the result in your data after four to eight weeks.
What happens in the first week after you hire me?
The call
Twenty to thirty minutes. You show me the site and what's worrying you, I tell you whether there's a real problem to fix.
Access and crawl
Read-only Search Console, then a full crawl of the site. Nothing changes on your site at this stage.
The findings
The written list, ordered by what each issue is costing you, with the screenshot behind every claim.
Scope, or stop
You either approve a fixed scope on Upwork, take the list to your own developer, or walk away. All three are fine.
How do you measure results, without taking my word for it?
Search performance figures come from client Search Console data unless stated otherwise. Each has a case study you can read, including the parts that didn't work.
What I measure beyond rankings
None of the eight case studies is in Airdrie, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. My Alberta evidence is a tile firm in Edmonton holding position 1.1 on its own name, on a site that took 862 clicks last quarter, plus my own reading of all 29 Airdrie packs and all nine results ranking for SEO here. Judge the Alberta claim on the Alberta data.
The full case studies, numbers and all
Eight projects, each with its own dates, its own Search Console figures and the rows that didn't go to plan left in.
Worth saying plainly: none of these eight is in Airdrie. They're in Pakistan, Canada, the UK, Jamaica and four US states, because that's where the work came from. My Alberta evidence is a tile firm in Edmonton sitting at position 1.1 on its own name, on a site that took 862 clicks last quarter, and my own read of the Airdrie map pack across 29 categories. Technical SEO doesn't change at the border, but you should judge the Alberta claim on the Alberta data, not on a jewellery store in Karachi. That one's in full here: Edmonton WordPress SEO results.
GK Jewelers
A redesign cut its clicks to about a fifth of normal in three days. Redirects had it above the old level by 20 June, and it then doubled.
Lux Jewels
Two years and two agencies had produced nothing. She only signed because I offered to refund the lot if it stayed that way.
Bright Pathways ABA
610,963 impressions and 6,330 clicks in a quarter, with the brand holding position 1.1.
Scrap a Vehicle
From roughly 10 clicks a day in June to roughly 70 a day in September.
Areca Homes
117,541 impressions at average position 8.9, feeding villa bookings and enquiries from owners who want theirs managed.
Harmonized Getaways
Reach up 31% quarter on quarter, clicks up 16%, and the click rate down. All three are in the same picture.
Alpenglow Fireplace
Launched 9 August. A 7.42% click rate in the 28 days to 12 September, and the owner reports enquiries already coming in.
Arch and Handle
22 search clicks in a quarter, and two days later a $50,000 to $150,000 commercial enquiry through its qualifying form.
Three promises you can hold me to
On time, or discounted
Every project carries a committed date in the written scope. If I miss it, you get 10% off for every day it's late.
Green vitals, or free fixes
Speed projects ship with Core Web Vitals in the green on mobile. If they aren't, I keep fixing until they are, at no extra cost.
A reply in one business day
You'll never chase me for an update. Every message gets answered within one business day, usually much sooner.
All three sit in the terms, not just on this page. What I won't promise is a ranking position, because that's Google's call and not mine.
A consultant, or one of the nine pages above you?
Worth being specific about who you're actually choosing between. I read all nine results for SEO in Airdrie. Not one is a local business page, and not one is an independent consultant. They're agencies, mostly from somewhere else.
What the ranking pages look like
- Four of the nine are run from outside the town
- None of the eight names a single tool it works in
- None states what it won't do
- Two of the nine carry under 130 words of readable text
What you get here instead
- A page I wrote for Airdrie after reading every competitor page in full
- The tools named: Search Console, GA4, Screaming Frog, WordPress itself
- The exclusions written down, above, before you book
- The person who finds the problem is the one who fixes it
Renting enquiries, or owning the pipe?
Some Airdrie trades buy their work from lead sellers, and the rank and rent model is easier to run here than in Calgary precisely because the search results are soft. Build a site, rank it on a KD 4 term, sell the enquiries. What a lead costs varies by trade, and I have no measured figure for Airdrie, so ask two sellers and you'll know more than any number I could print. What doesn't vary is the shape: you pay per enquiry, forever.
Buying leads from someone else's site
- You pay per lead, forever, and the price is theirs to raise
- Some sellers send the same enquiry to several businesses, depending on the deal
- You build no asset. Stop paying and the calls stop that day
- The customer's first impression belongs to their brand
Your own site doing the same job
- Enquiries arrive directly, with no cut taken
- They come from Google, and a site can surface in AI answers where its information is eligible
- The asset is yours, and it can keep earning after the invoice, though rankings and demand move
- Your name is on the first impression
Here's the number that makes owning worth considering in this town. In the typical Airdrie pack, the middle business holds 98 reviews, and the average top count across all 29 is 582. Those are counts a real business reaches by serving people well. In Calgary the same middle figure is 275. Keep buying leads while this gets built. Switch the tap off when your own site brings in work you'd have paid for anyway, measured against your numbers rather than mine.
Stop renting. Start owning.
Book the call, and we'll work out whether your site can carry it.
No shopfront? Your Business Profile still matters
Half the trades I work with have no address the public can visit. In Airdrie that matters twice over, because a van based business here often works Calgary as a matter of course, and Google treats a service area business differently from one with a shopfront. Get that setup wrong and the profile fights the website instead of supporting it.
Local SEO gets sold as one service, but Google summarises local results around relevance, distance and popularity, and its detailed guidance calls that third one prominence. Distance is how far you are from whoever is searching, and no setting manufactures it. Prominence is yours to earn and I won't fake any part of it. Relevance is where most of the buyable work sits. The full explanation is on the Local SEO page, so this one stays short.
Setup and optimisation is included in the audit and fixes package. What I won't do is post to your profile weekly or manage reviews, because that's your voice, not mine.
Which market does your site actually claim?
Airdrie's service area question is unlike anywhere else I've measured in Alberta, and it's not about the town. It's about the city fifteen minutes south. Plenty of Airdrie businesses take Calgary work, and plenty of Calgary businesses take Airdrie work, which is why four of the nine pages ranking here are run from outside the town. The decision isn't which Airdrie neighbourhood deserves a page. It's whether you're an Airdrie business that serves Calgary, or a Calgary business with an Airdrie page, and your site should say which. If most of your work is south of the city line, the packs on my Calgary SEO services page are roughly three times deeper on reviews, and that's the market you'd be claiming.
Worth building
- You actually work there and would take the job tomorrow
- There's something true and specific to say: the drive, whether you charge past the town limits, the housing stock, a job you've done
- People actually search for that service with that place attached
- The page can stand on its own without the place name doing all the work
Not worth building
- The same page with the place name swapped, the way five of the nine above you do it
- Calgary quadrant pages from a business that works two of them
- Communities listed for keyword coverage with nothing behind them
- A neighbouring town page that repeats what the service page already said
Whichever you are, say it plainly on one page. Name where the work comes from, say something true about it, and add a second town only when you've got something new to say about that one too.
Airdrie's neighbourhoods, and how many deserve a page
Fifty-one named neighbourhoods, and it's tempting to give every one of them a page. In a town where the whole SEO cluster is worth 170 searches a month, fifty-one of those would be fifty-one pages competing with each other for a demand that barely exists.
What's worth building instead is a page for the work you actually do, not for the estate somebody lives on. A reader searching from any one of these wants the same thing from you, and one good service page answers all of them.
Names from the Neighbourhoods section of Wikipedia's Airdrie article, read on 20 September 2026. I am not claiming to work in all of them and neither should your site. Pick the two or three where the work actually happens, say something true about each, and let the trade pages carry the rest.
Find your trade, then read the advice for it
These are the 29 trades I checked in the Airdrie pack study, each with the median review count in its pack and how settled that pack looks. This is the section to read before anything else on the page, because the right advice for your business is in your row and not in the average.
Nineteen came back mature and nine are still contested. Airdrie has more open trades than Calgary, which has two. If your row says contested and its top count is under a hundred reviews, the work is worth doing now rather than next year.
Looking for someone local? Check whether they are
Airdrie owners search for an SEO consultant near me and then hire whoever looks closest. Here that instinct misfires in a specific way: the results that look local mostly aren't. Four of the nine name Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto and half a dozen other cities on the same page.
What proximity doesn't change
- Your Local Pack visibility, where relevance, distance and prominence all count
- Whether Google can index your service pages
- How fast your site loads on a customer's phone
- What your schema says about your business
What to ask instead
- Can they show you client figures with dates, not testimonials alone
- Do they work on WordPress every day, or once a quarter
- Will one person do the work, or will it go to a junior
- Is the scope fixed and the money protected before you pay
Everything here runs over Zoom, Google Meet or messages on Mountain Time, and you watch the same Search Console I do. If you'd rather have someone in the room, hire locally. I'd rather say that than pretend an office on Main Street would change your rankings.
Two free tools, and no email to hand over
Both run in your own browser, nothing gets uploaded, and they'll tell you something true about your site before you ever speak to me.
Design is the hard half here. I'll take the other one.
Here's something in the keyword data worth knowing. SEMrush reports a materially higher difficulty for web design airdrie, at 21, than for the core SEO terms at 4 and 6, on comparable measured demand. Difficulty isn't a scale you can divide, so that isn't four times anything, but the direction is clear enough.
The awkward conversation
- The site launches and the traffic drops, because the URLs changed
- The client asks about Google and nobody on the team owns the answer
- An agency from another province arrives, blames the build, and takes the retainer
- You get the blame for a problem nobody was hired to solve
White label, in your name
- Technical work under your brand, your client never hears my name
- Pre-launch checks, so the redirects and the rankings survive
- Organic growth without buying backlinks, because the fixes are on the site
- A written report you can hand over as your own
- Fixed scope per project. No commission, no client poaching
Run a studio that serves Airdrie?
Run a studio that serves Airdrie? Send me one client site. If there's nothing worth fixing, I'll tell you that too.
Who this is for, and who it isn't
Airdrie is small enough that a bad fit doesn't go quietly, so I'd rather be blunt about it now than take your money.
Worth booking
- You run a small business site on WordPress or WooCommerce, or you're ready to move to one
- Your trade's row in the trade grid says contested and the visible review gap is relatively smaller
- A redesign or move is coming up, or one already cost you rankings, and you need the search side handled
- You want the person who finds the problem to be the one who fixes it
- You'd rather buy a fixed scope than a monthly retainer
Don't book
- You want Google Business Profile posts, reviews or citations managed
- You want link building or paid ads
- You want a guaranteed position by a date
- Your site is on Wix or Squarespace and staying there
- You're in a pack whose leader holds a thousand reviews and you want the map, not the site
One person, and you can check him
What I actually do
Muhammad Younus, WordPress technical SEO consultant. Based in Karachi, Pakistan, working with Alberta clients remotely on Mountain Time hours. Page first published 17 September 2026, last updated 28 September 2026.
I fix the search side of small business websites: technical and local SEO. Owners and agencies, remotely, on Mountain Time hours for Alberta clients. WordPress and WooCommerce are the platforms I work on, and there's no team here. The person who reads your Search Console is the person who writes the redirects, and the person who answers your messages.
My work is on Upwork, with the review history public, and eight projects are written up here with their figures and their dates, including the results that stalled. More about how I work.
Four minutes of due diligence
- Read a case study and check the dates against the figures
- Open my Upwork profile and read the reviews from clients
- Ask me on the call to show the Search Console screen behind a number
- Start with the audit, and stop there if the findings don't convince you
What you keep when the work ends
The change log
Every fix documented, with what changed and why, so your next developer isn't guessing.
Your own accounts
Hosting, licences, Search Console and analytics stay in your name. I hold nothing hostage.
No dependency on me
Nothing on your site needs me to stay. Remove my access and it keeps working exactly the same.
A measurement date
We agree when to read the result, and I'll tell you plainly if a change did nothing.
Bring three things, and the call is quick
Your URL
That's enough to start. I'll have looked at the site before we speak.
Read-only Search Console
Two minutes to grant, and it's the difference between opinions and evidence. I'll set it up if you don't have it.
What you want more of
Calls, quote forms, orders or bookings. The fixes get prioritised around that, not around a score.
Airdrie SEO by the numbers, if you'd rather see them first
The short version of everything I measured. Nineteen of the twenty-nine packs came back mature, nine are still contested and none is wide open. That puts Airdrie between Calgary, where twenty-seven of twenty-nine are settled, and the smaller towns further out where half the market is still in play.
The part worth your attention is the spread rather than the average. Security and alarms has one listing on a thousand reviews against a pack median of fifteen. At the other end, roofers, garage doors, concrete and water and fire restoration have no listing on a hundred. One average across those is a number that describes nobody.
On the call I'll walk you through your row, not all 29 of them.
How settled each pack is, and how far ahead the top sits
The full study. For each trade: the most reviews any listing in that pack had, the median and the grade that follows. Review counts move daily, so treat it as a snapshot.
| Vertical | Top count | Median | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dentists | 1,400 | 524 | mature |
| Veterinary clinics | 1,300 | 478 | mature |
| Optometrists | 1,600 | 349 | mature |
| Gyms and studios | 1,900 | 242 | mature |
| Auto repair | 328 | 237 | mature |
| Cleaning services | 396 | 182 | mature |
| Chiropractors and physio | 419 | 169 | mature |
| Flooring and tile | 389 | 131 | mature |
| Clinics and family medicine | 676 | 130 | mature |
| Glass and window | 333 | 108 | mature |
| HVAC and furnace | 1,300 | 108 | mature |
| Pest control | 1,100 | 102 | mature |
| Insurance brokers | 1,000 | 99 | mature |
| Med spas and aesthetics | 289 | 98 | mature |
| Real estate | 280 | 98 | mature |
| Towing | 380 | 85 | mature |
| Mortgage brokers | 130 | 73 | mature |
| Law firms | 152 | 64 | mature |
| Plumbers | 218 | 60 | mature |
| Accountants and bookkeepers | 204 | 56 | contested |
| Water and fire restoration | 56 | 56 | contested |
| Painters | 121 | 49 | contested |
| IT and managed services | 309 | 44 | contested |
| Landscaping and lawn | 1,100 | 41 | contested |
| Garage doors | 91 | 32 | contested |
| Electricians | 269 | 30 | contested |
| Concrete and paving | 94 | 24 | contested |
| Roofers | 54 | 24 | contested |
| Security and alarms | 1,000 | 15 | top heavy |
Read the security and alarms row against the roofers row. One has a top count of a thousand reviews with a median of fifteen, a 67 times gap. The other has a top count of 54. Those two businesses are in the same town and need opposite plans, which is the whole reason this page exists.
Who ranks for Airdrie SEO, counted by kind
These are the nine organic results for SEO in Airdrie on 21 September 2026, counted by the kind of page each one is rather than named. I read every one in full, not from the snippets.
Not one of the nine is a local business page, and not one is an independent consultant. So the choice in front of an Airdrie owner is mostly between agencies, several of them national, and one person who read the town's own numbers first. I'm not rating anyone's pages. I'm showing you the field you'd be choosing from.
Airdrie SEO questions, the honest answers
Is SEO easier in Airdrie than Calgary?
On the keyword side, much. Airdrie SEO carries a SEMrush difficulty of 4, the softest Alberta city term I've measured so far, and the whole cluster is worth about 170 searches a month. On the business side it depends entirely on your trade. Nine of the 29 packs here are still contested against Calgary's two, but the middle business in a typical pack holds 98 reviews and in one vertical the most-reviewed listing holds a thousand.
My competitor has a thousand reviews. Can I catch them?
If you're in security and alarms, almost certainly not, and I'd say so on the call. That pack has one listing on 1,000 against a median of 15. Catching the median is a real goal. Catching that one isn't, and the work moves to the organic results instead of the map.
Which Airdrie trades are actually worth working on now?
The four where no listing has a hundred reviews: roofers at 54, water and fire restoration at 56, garage doors at 91 and concrete and paving at 94. Those are positions a working business can reach on service quality, which means the website and the profile are what decide the tie. Your row is in the table above.
Should my site target Airdrie or Calgary?
That's the real question here and it's different from anywhere else in Alberta, because the two markets sit fifteen minutes apart and overlap constantly. Four of the nine pages ranking for Airdrie are run from elsewhere. If you take Calgary work, say so clearly rather than hiding it, and if you don't, say that too. The mistake is a site that leaves it ambiguous and ranks for neither properly.
Do I need a page for each Airdrie neighbourhood?
Almost certainly not. Airdrie has 51 named neighbourhoods and a page for each would be 51 pages saying the same thing with a different estate at the top. Put the effort into the service pages, and give an estate its own page only when there's something true to say about it.
Why is web design harder to rank for here than SEO?
I don't know why, and I'd rather say that than invent a reason. What I can tell you is the measurement: web design Airdrie carries a difficulty of 21 at 70 searches a month, while airdrie seo carries 4 at 90. The design side of this market is being competed for and the search side is being left to agencies from other provinces.
Why is the whole Airdrie SEO cluster worth only about 170 searches a month?
Because the city had 74,100 people at the 2021 census (Statistics Canada), and most of them aren't searching for SEO help. SEMrush measures 90 a month on airdrie seo and 50 on seo airdrie, and reports no measurable volume at all for seo consultant airdrie, technical seo airdrie, local seo airdrie or wordpress seo airdrie. I would rather show you that than pretend the demand is bigger. It also means one page written about Airdrie itself has room to stand out, which is the opening.
Only one of the pages ranking here mentions WordPress. Does that matter?
One of the eight I read does, and none mentions WooCommerce. If your site is on WordPress, and plenty of Airdrie small business sites are, then the people ranking above you are describing work they have not said they can do on your platform. That is not proof they cannot. It is a question worth asking them before you pay.
How do I know your pack numbers are real?
You can check them. Search any of the 29 trades in the table with Airdrie attached, from Airdrie, and find the listing with the most reviews. They were captured on 8 September 2026 and review counts move daily, so expect small differences rather than none. If a row is badly wrong, tell me and I will re-pull it.
Two of the pages ranking above me look almost empty. How?
They are almost empty to a reader and to me. One returns 9 words of readable text and another 124, because the rest of each page needs JavaScript to appear. Google renders JavaScript, so it can see more than my fetch did. What it tells you is that thin pages are holding positions here, which is a comment on how little competition this term has rather than on how good those pages are.
I run a business in Airdrie but most of my work is in Calgary. Which page should I optimise?
The one that matches where the work comes from, and that is a real decision rather than a formality here. Calgary carries about 2,300 searches a month on its SEO cluster against Airdrie's 170, and its packs are roughly three times deeper on reviews. Competing in Calgary is slower and worth more. Competing in Airdrie is faster and worth less. Most of the businesses I would take on in this position should say Airdrie clearly and then earn Calgary second, not the other way round.
How much does SEO cost in Airdrie?
The packages above are the prices, in US dollars: $149 for the audit and $999 for the audit and fixes. Month to month, it's $299 for maintenance or $750 for growth, with no minimum term. You pay on Upwork. You can stop after any milestone. Three of the eight competitor pages I read publish any pricing at all.
How long before I see anything change?
Four to eight weeks before either of us judges a change, because that's how long Google takes to recrawl and settle. Some fixes show faster, like pages that were never indexed. A soft market doesn't speed up the recrawl.
Can you guarantee a number one ranking?
No, and nobody truthfully can, however soft the keyword difficulty looks. What I guarantee is in writing: the date, the vitals, and a reply within one business day. Four of the eight competitor pages I read make some form of guarantee, and I'd read each of them closely before believing it.
Will you manage my Google Business Profile and reviews?
No. The profile is central to the map side and I'll set it up properly inside the audit and fixes package, but I don't write, buy or manage reviews. That's your voice. I fix the website your profile points at and tell you where the two disagree.
What do you need from me to start?
Your URL and read-only Search Console access, which takes two minutes to grant. If you don't have Search Console I'll set it up on the call. WordPress admin comes later, only when you approve fixes.
My site is on Wix, Squarespace or Shopify. Can you help?
Not on Wix or Squarespace. WordPress and WooCommerce are what I work on all day and that focus is why the fixes are quick. If you're planning a move to WordPress, that's a migration project and it's in scope. Worth noting that one of the eight pages ranking here mentions WordPress at all and none mentions WooCommerce.
Do you work with Airdrie web design studios as a white label?
Yes, and the keyword data suggests there are more of them than the SEO results imply. Several of the case studies are work done under someone else's brand. Your client never hears my name and I don't approach them.
Can you keep my rankings through a redesign?
That's the search side of it, and it's the part I do. Your designer builds the new site. A redesign loses traffic when the URLs change and nobody maps them, so I inventory every page you rank for, map each one to its new address, and watch Search Console for four to eight weeks afterwards.
What does a technical SEO consultant actually do all day?
Crawl your site, read your Search Console, find what Google can't reach or won't rank, then fix it in WordPress. It's closer to diagnosis and maintenance than to marketing. None of the eight pages ranking above explains this part, which is part of why I'm spelling it out.
Is SEO still worth it in 2026, with AI answers everywhere?
It changed and it didn't die. The same foundational SEO practices remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode. A page still needs to be crawlable, indexed and eligible for Search, and Google does not require special AI markup or files. What's gone is free traffic from thin content, which is why every figure on this page comes from a measurement.
How is this different from Google Ads?
Ads stop placing you the day the spend stops. Fixing the site underneath doesn't charge per click, though it still depends on Google, your competitors and demand. In the nine Airdrie verticals I'd still call contested, ads are often the faster route while the organic work lands, and I'll say so.
