Medicine Hat SEO, and the half nobody here is selling
Medicine Hat SEO, the technical half: I'm Muhammad Younus, a remote consultant who does WordPress technical SEO, fixing the crawling, indexing, speed and on-page problems that keep Medicine Hat business sites out of Google. Audits from $149, fixes from $999, booked on Upwork. I read seventeen pages ranking here first: two describe technical work and none mentions WordPress, and the page says plainly what the field sells that I don't.

Medicine Hat SEO: two of seventeen pages describe technical work
I pulled six Medicine Hat queries, rendered every page that ranked, and read each one in full. Seventeen rendered; six declined a headless browser and are recorded as unread rather than counted as missing anything. Of the seventeen, two describe technical work and none mentions WordPress. That is not the pattern anywhere else I've done this.
The same count, in the towns I've already measured
0 of 17 mention WordPress
4 of 10 mention WordPress
2 of 10 mention WordPress
5 of 8 mention WordPress
This isn't a complaint about quality. Marketing is a real service, several of these pages sell it well, and four publish a price. The finding is about what's absent rather than what's wrong: crawling, indexing, rendering, Core Web Vitals and structured data barely appear on the first page of results for this city.
Which is the honest reason to read further or stop. If what you need is campaigns, content and social, the field above already covers it and I'd send you there. If pages aren't getting indexed, the site is slow, a rebuild lost your rankings or WooCommerce is misbehaving, that's the half nobody on that first page is offering.
One pack here holds a record across all 31 towns
I've measured 911 local packs across 31 Alberta towns. The widest distance between a pack's most-reviewed listing and its median sits in Medicine Hat: security and alarms, where the median business holds 2 reviews and the most-reviewed listing holds 3,600. That's 1,800 times, and the second widest in the province is Leduc at 475.
A gap like that usually means one business has been collecting reviews for years while the rest of the category barely collects any. Review counts describe one signal and don't decide a pack position, so this is a description of a market rather than a prediction about it. What it does tell a security firm in Medicine Hat is that the reputation half of the problem is enormous and the relevance half may be wide open.
The rest of the city is less dramatic and more useful. Eleven of the 30 packs came back mature, 14 are contested and five are top-heavy. Concrete and paving sits at a median of 4, painters at 4, accountants at 18. Dentists at the other end sit at 372.
Medicine Hat SEO beyond the city line: Cypress County and Brooks
Cypress County is the municipal district that surrounds both Medicine Hat and Redcliff, with hamlets such as Dunmore and Irvine inside it, and 7,524 people at the 2021 census. A van-based trade here usually covers some of it without thinking twice. If that's you, one county page that says what you actually do out there beats a page for every hamlet, and your Business Profile's service area should match it.
Brooks is a different decision. It sits about 110 km northwest of Medicine Hat in the County of Newell, a city of 14,924 in 2021 with its own local packs, and they look nothing like these: nine of the 29 I measured there came back wide open. Brooks, Alberta SEO has the full table. Give Brooks a page only if you'd take the job tomorrow and can say something true about working there.
Distances and populations from Wikipedia's Brooks and Cypress County articles, read on 28 September 2026. Pack figures are my own pull of 8 September 2026.
Nine queries, and most of them the ones it was written for
Between 27 June and 26 September 2026 this page collected 29 impressions across nine distinct queries. Twenty-nine impressions is still very little. The spread is the interesting part: six of the nine are ways of asking for SEO in Medicine Hat, including "medicine hat search engine optimization", "google search optimization medicine hat" and "google maps ranking medicine hat" as well as the obvious ones. The other three aren't: "ppc agency medicine hat" and two web development searches, which is the page being read slightly wider than it's written.

What that suggests, cautiously, is that the page is being read as being about the subject rather than about one phrase. Search Console averages a position across its impressions and the number moves with the searcher and the location, so the figures beside each query are rough. None of them is close to a first page. The spread is the interesting part, not the depth.
Want to see what your own URL receives?
Read-only Search Console takes two minutes to grant, and reading it is the first thing the $149 audit does.
How much does SEO cost in Medicine Hat?
The same fixed prices as everywhere else I work, printed below before you book: an audit, an audit with the fixes, or a monthly plan. Four of the seventeen pages I read here publish a figure too, so you can compare like with like. The difference is what the price buys, which on this page is the technical layer the field above mostly doesn't describe.
No Medicine Hat client yet, and I'd rather say so. The nearest Alberta figures are on the Edmonton SEO results page: a tile firm holding position 1.1 on its own name.

Which of the four does your site actually need?
Agencies sell SEO as one thing. It's four, and in this city the split does more work than usual: the field above is strong on the marketing side and close to silent on the technical one. Two of seventeen pages mention technical work at all.
There's a fifth now: being understood and referenced by AI answers, including Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google's own guidance is that this needs no special markup or AI text file, just a crawlable, clear page, which is why GEO and AEO work sits inside the same projects rather than being sold separately.
No AI-search gimmicks either. I don't sell llms.txt as a Google ranking factor, I don't invent GEO schema Google doesn't ask for, and I won't promise that an AI answer will cite you, because nobody controls that.
What does a technical SEO consultant actually do?
Your project will use some of these, not all of them. The audit decides which, and the scope names them before you pay anything.
showing all 20
Not sure which of these your site needs? That is what the audit is for: you get the list, ranked by what each one is costing you, before anything else is agreed.
How does working with an SEO consultant actually run?
Book the call
Send your URL and read-only Search Console access. It takes two minutes, and the call is free.
Get the findings
What's broken, what it's costing in clicks, ranked. If a finding isn't in your own data, it doesn't go in the list.
Approve a fixed scope
A written scope, a date and a price on Upwork. You approve it before anything starts.
Fixes, then measurement
I do the work, one change per page per window, then you and I read the result in your data after four to eight weeks.
What happens in the first week after you hire me?
The call
Twenty to thirty minutes. You show me the site and what's worrying you, I tell you whether there's a real problem to fix.
Access and crawl
Read-only Search Console, then a full crawl of the site. Nothing changes on your site at this stage.
The findings
The written list, ordered by what each issue is costing you, with the screenshot behind every claim.
Scope, or stop
You either approve a fixed scope on Upwork, take the list to your own developer, or walk away. All three are fine.
How do you measure results, without taking my word for it?
Search performance figures come from client Search Console data unless stated otherwise. Each has a case study you can read, including the parts that didn't work.
What I measure beyond rankings
No Medicine Hat client yet, and I'd rather say so. My nearest Alberta evidence is a tile firm in Edmonton at position 1.1 on its own name, plus my own read of all 30 Medicine Hat packs, the seventeen pages ranking here, and this page's own Search Console printed above.
The full case studies, numbers and all
Eight projects, each with its own dates, its own Search Console figures and the rows that didn't go to plan left in.
Worth saying plainly: none of these eight is in Medicine Hat. They're in Pakistan, Canada, the UK, Jamaica and four US states, because that's where the work came from. My Alberta evidence is a tile firm in Edmonton sitting at position 1.1 on its own name, on a site that took 862 clicks last quarter, and my own read of the Medicine Hat map pack across 30 categories. Technical SEO doesn't change at the border, but you should judge the Alberta claim on the Alberta data, not on a jewellery store in Karachi. That one's in full here: Edmonton SEO results.
GK Jewelers
A redesign cut its clicks to about a fifth of normal in three days. Redirects had it above the old level by 20 June, and it then doubled.
Lux Jewels
Two years and two agencies had produced nothing. She only signed because I offered to refund the lot if it stayed that way.
Bright Pathways ABA
610,963 impressions and 6,330 clicks in a quarter, with the brand holding position 1.1.
Scrap a Vehicle
From roughly 10 clicks a day in June to roughly 70 a day in September.
Areca Homes
117,541 impressions at average position 8.9, feeding villa bookings and enquiries from owners who want theirs managed.
Harmonized Getaways
Reach up 31% quarter on quarter, clicks up 16%, and the click rate down. All three are in the same picture.
Alpenglow Fireplace
Launched 9 August. A 7.42% click rate in the 28 days to 12 September, and the owner reports enquiries already coming in.
Arch and Handle
22 search clicks in a quarter, and two days later a $50,000 to $150,000 commercial enquiry through its qualifying form.
Three promises you can hold me to
On time, or discounted
Every project carries a committed date in the written scope. If I miss it, you get 10% off for every day it's late.
Green vitals, or free fixes
Speed projects ship with Core Web Vitals in the green on mobile. If they aren't, I keep fixing until they are, at no extra cost.
A reply in one business day
You'll never chase me for an update. Every message gets answered within one business day, usually much sooner.
All three sit in the terms, not just on this page. What I won't promise is a ranking position, because that's Google's call and not mine.
Renting enquiries, or owning the pipe?
Some Medicine Hat trades buy their work from lead sellers. What a lead costs varies by trade and I have no measured figure for this city, so ask two sellers for their rate and you'll know more than any number I could print. What doesn't vary is the shape: you pay per enquiry, forever, and the price is theirs to set.
Buying leads from someone else's site
- You pay per lead, forever, and the price is theirs to raise
- Some sellers send the same enquiry to several businesses, depending on the deal
- You build no asset. Stop paying and the calls stop that day
- The customer's first impression belongs to their brand
Your own site doing the same job
- Enquiries arrive directly, with no cut taken
- They come from Google, and a site can surface in AI answers where its information is eligible
- The asset is yours, and it can keep earning after the invoice, though rankings and demand move
- Your name is on the first impression
In the typical Medicine Hat pack the middle business holds 48 reviews, against 275 in Calgary and about 250 in Edmonton. Those are counts a working business can reach by serving people well, which is a different proposition from renting enquiries. The security and alarms pack is the exception and the page says so above rather than hiding it. Keep buying leads while anything gets built, and switch the tap off against your own numbers rather than mine.
Stop renting. Start owning.
Book the call, and we'll work out whether your site can carry it.
No shopfront? Your Business Profile still matters
Half the trades I work with have no address the public can visit. With 14 of 30 packs still contested here, getting the profile factually right is one of the few parts you fully control. This section stays short and links to the full explanation rather than repeating it.
Local SEO gets sold as one service, but Google summarises local results around relevance, distance and popularity, and its detailed guidance calls that third one prominence. Distance is how far you are from whoever is searching, and no setting manufactures it. Prominence is yours to earn and I won't fake any part of it. Relevance is where most of the buyable work sits. The full explanation is on the Local SEO page, so this one stays short.
Setup and optimisation is included in the audit and fixes package. What I won't do is post to your profile weekly or manage reviews, because that's your voice, not mine.
Find your trade, then read the advice for it
All 30 trades from the pack study, each with the median review count in its pack and how settled it looks. Read your own row first. In a city holding the province's widest single gap, the average is the least useful number on the page.
Eleven came back mature, 14 contested and five top-heavy, which puts Medicine Hat 21st of the 31 towns I measured on openness: neither a settled market nor an empty one. In the typical pack here the middle business holds 48 reviews, against 275 in the packs on my SEO in Calgary page. Mature, contested and wide open are labels from my own pack-study methodology, not Google classifications.
Looking for someone local? Check whether they are
If a Medicine Hat owner searches for an SEO consultant near me, proximity may affect who feels convenient to hire. It does not determine how that owner's business ranks. Those are two separate questions and they get answered in different places.
What proximity doesn't change
- Your Local Pack visibility, where relevance, distance and prominence all count
- Whether Google can index your service pages
- How fast your site loads on a customer's phone
- What your schema says about your business
What to ask instead
- Can they show you client figures with dates, not testimonials alone
- Do they work on WordPress every day, or once a quarter
- Will one person do the work, or will it go to a junior
- Is the scope fixed and the money protected before you pay
Everything here runs over Zoom, Google Meet or messages on Mountain Time, and you watch the same Search Console I do. If you'd rather have someone in the room, hire locally and I'd say so on the call. What I won't do is pretend to an office on Dunmore Road to make the decision easier.
Two free tools, and no email to hand over
Both run in your own browser, nothing gets uploaded, and they'll tell you something true about your site before you ever speak to me.
Who this is for, and who it isn't
The field here sells marketing and I sell the technical layer, which makes the fit question sharper in Medicine Hat than in most towns. Worth being blunt about it before you book anything.
Worth booking
- You run a small business site on WordPress or WooCommerce, or you're ready to move to one
- Your trade's row in the trade grid says contested and the visible review gap is relatively smaller
- A redesign or move is coming up, or one already cost you rankings, and you need the search side handled
- You want the person who finds the problem to be the one who fixes it
- You'd rather buy a fixed scope than a monthly retainer
Don't book
- You want Google Business Profile posts, reviews or citations managed
- You want link building or paid ads
- You want a guaranteed position by a date
- Your site is on Wix or Squarespace and staying there
- You're in a pack whose leader holds a thousand reviews and you want the map, not the site
One person, and you can check him
What I actually do
Muhammad Younus, WordPress technical SEO consultant. Based in Karachi, Pakistan, working with Alberta clients remotely on Mountain Time hours. Page first published 17 September 2026, last updated 28 September 2026.
I fix the search side of small business websites: technical and local SEO. Owners and agencies, remotely, on Mountain Time hours for Alberta clients. WordPress and WooCommerce are the platforms I work on, and there's no team here. The person who reads your Search Console is the person who writes the redirects, and the person who answers your messages.
My work is on Upwork, with the review history public, and eight projects are written up here with their figures and their dates, including the results that stalled. More about how I work.
Four minutes of due diligence
- Read a case study and check the dates against the figures
- Open my Upwork profile and read the reviews from clients
- Ask me on the call to show the Search Console screen behind a number
- Start with the audit, and stop there if the findings don't convince you
What you keep when the work ends
The change log
Every fix documented, with what changed and why, so your next developer isn't guessing.
Your own accounts
Hosting, licences, Search Console and analytics stay in your name. I hold nothing hostage.
No dependency on me
Nothing on your site needs me to stay. Remove my access and it keeps working exactly the same.
A measurement date
We agree when to read the result, and I'll tell you plainly if a change did nothing.
Bring three things, and the call is quick
Your URL
That's enough to start. I'll have looked at the site before we speak.
Read-only Search Console
Two minutes to grant, and it's the difference between opinions and evidence. I'll set it up if you don't have it.
What you want more of
Calls, quote forms, orders or bookings. The fixes get prioritised around that, not around a score.
Eleven settled packs. Fourteen still contested.
Scroll to your trade and ignore the other twenty-nine. Where you see contested, that's my word for a pack whose review spread came out relatively shallow against the rules of this study. Mature is my word for one where it didn't. Both describe a single signal captured on a single day, neither forecasts anything, and neither reports a view Google has taken.

| Concrete and paving | 33 | 4 | contested |
| Painters | 134 | 4 | top heavy |
| Security and alarms | 3,600 | 2 | top heavy |
One row in this table is worth staring at. Security and alarms: a median of 2, one listing on 3,600. That's the widest separation in all 911 packs I've measured, and the business ranked first here, on 43 reviews, also leads electricians. What a gap like that indicates is an enormous reputation barrier in one category, which is a different statement from claiming review counts arrange a pack, because they don't.
Who's here, and what else turned up
Six queries pulled, every ranking page rendered, seventeen read in full. The first pages are less uniformly occupied by SEO service pages than in any other town I've checked.
Documents on these first pages that aren't selling SEO at all
I can't tell you why Google returns those, and I'm not going to invent a reason. What's fair to say is that the first page here isn't uniformly occupied by SEO service pages, which is unusual: in Red Deer and Fort McMurray almost every slot is an agency.
Medicine Hat SEO questions, the honest answers
Why does this page keep saying the competitors don't do technical work?
Because I counted. I pulled six Medicine Hat queries, rendered every page that ranked and read seventeen of them end to end. Two describe technical work and none mentions WordPress. For comparison, the same exercise gave 70% in Fort McMurray, 88% in Cochrane and all nine pages in Red Deer. Six more here returned a 403 to a headless browser, so I've recorded those as unread rather than counted them as missing anything.
So are the agencies here bad?
No, and I don't want the page read that way. Marketing is a real service, four of the seventeen publish a price, and several sell what they do well. The finding is about what's absent from the first page rather than about quality. If what you need is campaigns, content and social, that field covers it and I'd send you there.
What's this 1,800x number?
The widest distance between a pack's most-reviewed listing and its pack median out of all 911 local packs I've measured across 31 Alberta towns. It's in Medicine Hat's security and alarms pack: the median business holds 2 reviews, the most-reviewed listing holds 3,600. Second widest in the province is Leduc at 475. It usually means one business has been collecting reviews for years while the category around it barely has.
I'm in security here. Is the map pack hopeless for me?
The reputation half of it is hard, and I'd say that on the call rather than sell around it. What a gap that size also implies is that relevance may be comparatively open, since most of the pack has almost no review history. That usually moves the useful work towards the organic results and the specific job queries rather than towards the map. Your row is in the table above.
Which Medicine Hat trades have the most room right now?
The shallowest review gaps in my sample sit in concrete and paving at a median of 4, painters at 4, and accountants and bookkeepers at 18. Review counts alone don't decide local pack position, so that isn't a promise. It means less of the gap in those packs is made of something that takes years to build.
Your own page surfaces for nine Medicine Hat queries. Does that prove anything?
Mostly that the page is being understood as being about what it says it's about, which is the narrow thing I'd want to show before charging anyone to fix that on their site. Twenty-nine impressions across nine queries between 27 June and 26 September 2026: six are SEO searches, and three are PPC or web development searches it wasn't written for. Positions in Search Console are averaged across impressions and shift with the searcher, so treat them as rough. My Red Deer page is the counter-example and says so on itself.
Should I create pages for Brooks or Cypress County?
Only for the places you'd actually drive to, with something true to say about each. Cypress County surrounds the city and Redcliff, so a county page often makes more sense than a page per hamlet. Brooks is a separate market 110 km up the road, with its own packs: nine of its 29 came back wide open. If you take work there, give it one honest page rather than a copy of your Medicine Hat page with the name swapped.
Why is the City of Medicine Hat's own website ranking for SEO searches?
Its Business Navigator page turns up on one of the six queries I pulled, alongside the college's web development course, an occupational therapy clinic's team page and a YouTube video. I can't tell you why Google returns those, and I'm not going to invent a reason. What it's fair to say is that the first page here isn't uniformly occupied by SEO service pages.
How much does SEO cost in Medicine Hat?
Two fixed figures and two monthly ones. The audit on its own is $149. With the repairs it identifies, $999. Monthly is $299 to keep things maintained or $750 to push the work forward, month to month. It all runs through Upwork one milestone at a time and you can stop at any of them. Four of the seventeen pages I read here publish a figure, so there's more to compare against than usual.
When would I know whether it worked?
I normally set the first meaningful review point at four to eight weeks. That is not a guarantee that rankings or leads will improve by then. It's roughly how long Google needs to recrawl what changed and let the results settle. Pages that were never indexed at all can show up sooner.
Can you promise a first position?
No, and nobody controls that. One of the seventeen pages ranking here publishes a guarantee of any kind, so read closely whatever you're offered. What I'll put in writing is narrow and checkable: the delivery date, the Core Web Vitals figures, and a reply inside one business day.
Will you look after my profile and reviews?
The profile yes, inside the audit and fixes package. Reviews no, in any form. I won't write, buy or campaign for them. In a city where one listing holds 3,600 of them, it's worth being clear that a count like that is built over years, not bought in a month.
What do you need from me to begin?
A URL and read-only Search Console, roughly two minutes to grant. If it's never been set up I'll do it with you on the call. WordPress credentials come later and only for fixes you've approved.
We're on Squarespace.
Then I'm the wrong person and I'd rather say so now. WordPress and WooCommerce are the entirety of what I work on. Worth noting that none of the seventeen pages I read here mentions either one, so the whole field is quiet on platform.
What if nothing needs fixing?
You'll be told that and it will have cost nothing to find out. Sometimes a site is in decent shape and the constraint sits somewhere no consultant reaches from a keyboard.
Why Upwork instead of an invoice?
It makes the arrangement visible. Scope, milestones and money sit somewhere you can inspect, nothing is charged outside it, and every review I've been left is readable before you commit.
Will a rebuild cost me what I've already got?
Not if the addresses are carried across, which is most of the work. Sites lose traffic in a rebuild because URLs change and nobody maps the old ones. So I inventory every page currently earning impressions, redirect each one, then watch Search Console for four to eight weeks.
I run an agency here. Would you work behind us?
Gladly, and given what this page says about the local field it's probably the most useful arrangement on offer. Several case studies are work delivered under another company's name. Your client stays yours, my name never appears, and I don't approach them.
What does the work involve day to day?
Crawling sites, reading Search Console, working out what Google can't reach or won't rank, then repairing it inside WordPress. Much closer to fault-finding than to running a campaign.
Does SEO still matter with AI answers?
It moved rather than ended. The same foundational SEO practices remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode. A page still needs to be crawlable, indexed and eligible for Search, and Google does not require special AI markup or files.
What do I keep if we stop?
All of it, and none of it breaks. Site, licences and a written change log are yours, no plugin of mine props anything up, and I keep no access. The handover is a document.
To recap, here's what you're getting
- A free call, and an honest answer on whether anything's worth fixing
- Findings tied to your own Search Console, ranked by what they cost
- The fixes done by the person who found the problem
- Three written guarantees: the date, the vitals, and a reply in one business day
- Everything owned by you, with a change log, and no lock-in
No card and no form. Upwork holds the scope and the money.
Other towns in Southern Alberta
Each one has its own pack data, and they don't look alike. The Alberta town comparison puts all 31 side by side.
Need the half of the job nobody here advertises?
Two things get you an answer: the address of the site, and read-only Search Console. What you get back is your own line from the table further up, a read on whether reputation or relevance is the thing in your way, and a verdict on whether hiring me would actually help. That verdict is sometimes no. If the real problem is campaigns and content rather than crawling and indexing, I'll tell you to go back to the first page of results and pick from it, because that field does that work and I don't. Anything I do take on is fixed in scope and price through Upwork, with no retainer and a way out at every milestone.
