Accounting SEO on WordPress
Accounting SEO is the work that gets a CPA or bookkeeping firm found when clients search a tax, bookkeeping or year-end service in their town. I do SEO for accountants on WordPress, alone and remotely. Accountants have the thinnest map pack of 30 Alberta verticals I measured, a typical pack median of 9 reviews, and clients search on a tax-season clock.

Why isn't an accountant's map pack won on reviews?
Because nobody has many. I measured map packs for 30 verticals in 31 Alberta towns on 8 September 2026, and accountants came out thinnest, with a typical pack median of 9 reviews. In 18 of 30 towns with a count, #1 wasn't the most-reviewed firm. Google says local results rest mainly on relevance, distance and popularity.
Edmonton's the exception: its #1 firm has 750 reviews, so Edmonton SEO for an accountant is a slower job than a small-town one. Everywhere else, distance you can't change. Category and a matching page you can, and that's where I start.
Which client searches run on which clock?
Keywords Everywhere, Canada, 26 September 2026, 12 months to August.
The spring spike
"tax preparation near me" goes from 590 in December to 5,400 in March.
A later peak
Bookkeeping peaks after tax season, so it's its own page: monthly scope, your software.
The year-round page
"corporate tax return" runs 210 to 390 a month, so this page earns in July too.

What does accounting SEO fix on a firm's WordPress site?
Fixed-scope services, and what each one means for a CPA or bookkeeping practice.
How does SEO for accountants work on WordPress?
The profile first, then three intake routes
Pick the primary category that matches most of your paid work, keep hours identical to the site's, and list each service. If you've been told to hire a local SEO consultant, check the simpler fix first: the profile and a page have to agree. Personal tax, bookkeeping and year-end clients then get their own tracked pages, each ending at your portal.
Keyword research on the tax clock
Service plus town beats generic tips: "tax accountant calgary" draws 480 searches a month. Every tax page names its tax year, since it's Your Money or Your Life content and CPA Alberta's guidance calls out-of-date information misleading. They're live by January, ahead of the February to May spike.
Reviews and links you can defend
Ask every client the same way, with Google's review link, and never for a fee discount: Google's policy bars incentives and asking only happy clients. Links come from people who've already worked with you: business associations, the lenders and lawyers you refer to, local press. CPA Alberta holds you responsible for what an agent you hire publishes (para 3), so I won't write a claim you can't back up.
AccountingService, and answers AI can quote
AccountingService for the firm, each CPA a Person with the credential on it, and no aggregateRating: Google treats reviews a firm controls about itself as self-serving. Google says AI Overviews need no special optimization, so fees, turnaround and the software you use go in plain text on the page.
What does CPA Alberta let your site say?
My plain reading of Rule 217.1 and its guidance in CPA Alberta's Rules with Guidance (September 2020, the newest I found). It isn't legal advice.
Checked with you first
- Unbacked "specialist" claims (paras 10 to 15)
- A "from $X" fee that isn't representative (para 7)
- Star widgets: no stars show in Google for reviews a firm controls
Built into every page
- Nothing false, misleading or unsubstantiated (217.1(a))
- No plural "team" on a solo practice, no promised results (para 6)
- No "best accountant in Calgary" claims (para 9)

Accounting SEO questions, answered
Does SEO work for accounting firms, or only referrals?
Both. "accountant near me" averages 12,100 searches a month in Canada, peaking at 22,200 in April.
How long does SEO take for an accounting firm?
Start in October. A changed page needs a recrawl, and Google says crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, so October work is indexed well before the February to May spike. The map pack moves slower, and I won't put a date on it: no one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.
How much does SEO cost for an accounting firm?
My packages are fixed: US$149 for the audit, US$999 for the audit and fixes, or US$299 or US$750 a month for ongoing work. If you've got several offices, you'll get a quote on Upwork.
What keywords should an accountant target?
Service plus town or client type, like "tax accountant calgary" at 480 a month, not generic tips (the Calgary SEO services page has that city's packs). Then "bookkeeping services" in spring and "corporate tax return" all year.
Can I use my website provider's tax articles?
I wouldn't index them. They're on other firms' sites, so Google's got no reason to pick yours.
Which Google profile category should an accountant pick?
The one matching most of your paid work, the rest secondary. Google's guidelines say to use as few categories as possible, and each one that's left needs its own page.
